Devlog #6 - Creating Splash Screen

Creating Splash Screen for Game Release

I am almost done with development for Rolling Mind and it’s time to create a Splash Screen for my game’s branding! It is kind of unexpected that there are so many things that have to be done to polish a game before releasing. One of it is creating a splash screen. Personally, I think splash screen is an important part of our game, as it gives our game an identity, where players would want to come back to for more, hopefully…?

Anyway, here’s how I create my Splash Screen for my mobile game: Rolling Mind.

Since, I am not a very good artist, why not ask Chat GPT? Here’s what I received:

This is not bad~ pretty neat design to get me started.

Now, using Blender, let’s create the necessary models. Firstly, the red panda, our beloved mascot! For this character, I found a very helpful tutorial by Ksenia Starkova. Referencing her techniques and the previous logo design that I had, I was able to create this:

Adding the wooden signboard next….If you want to know how to create a plank, you can refer to this tutorial by brainchildpl. The signboard were created with a combination of low poly planks and 3D words. Here’s what it looks like!

I won’t be going into details, so in case you are wondering, I am using noise texture to procedurally create the wooden & rough texture. You can also use texture painting if that’s easier for you.

Lastly, I rigged the red panda and create a few simple animations in Blender. And that’s it! With that, I exported it as a FBX and imported into Unity.

In Unity, to create the Splash Screen, I imported the FBX, configured the animation loops, added sound FX, added visual FX, added a scene transition script with loading bar and scene transition animation, and here’s the results!

Hello!

For the parallax fog effect, you can check out this tutorial by Sasquatch B Studios.

The process of creating the splash screen was fulfilling, but it is alot of work more than I expected. Anyway~ I hope you like the end results as much as I do! Plase look forward to the release of Rolling Mind.

PS: please support the creators of the tutorials if you can!
